Ecotech was invited by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) to give a presentation on the Most Appropriate Technology for mini and small STPs. The GHMC has undertaken an ambitious scheme to build and provide housing to 100,000 families with 2 BHK homes to economically weaker sections of society. The residential complexes are coming in various districts in and around Hyderabad including Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy, Medchal-Malkajgiri, Sanga Reddy, etc.
In the first phase about 50 STPs are proposed ranging in capacity from 100 KLD to the largest single STP at 8 MLD.
For all the STPs except for the 8 MLD plant, it is our recommendation to select the classic extended aeration activated sludge (EAAS) technology. For the 8.0 MLD we have recommended the genuine moving bed biofilm reactor (MBBR) technology with a proper primary sedimentation unit, sludge handling systems etc.—not the hotch-potch, mumbo-jumbo locally grown duplicate "MBBR" foisted on the nation by companies with a water treatment background and mindset, and absolutely no clue about sewage treatment.
