Ecotech hosted a training session on various kinds of STP technologies at the Ecotech Training Centre, Whitefield on February 9, 2019. Dr. Kodavasal of Ecotech went over the pros and cons of the various techs and applications. An overview of the classic Extended Aeration Activated Sludge (EEAS) technology, most appropriate for mini STPs such as those used in residential complexes, shopping mall, and office complexes was given.

Other technologies such as Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor (MBBR), Membrane Bio Reactor (MBR), Sequencing Batch Reactor (SBR), EADOx, CAACO, etc. was also reviewed, and it was highlighted why these technologies fail in mini and micro STP applications.
The presentation was well attended by a wide cross-section of stakeholders including policy makers, Residents Welfare Associations, Consultants, MEP heads, Facility Managers, etc. The audience found the learnings from the session extremely useful.
The Chief Guest was Sri. Lukose Vallatharai, IAS (Retd). His qualifications include BSc, PG DSSA, LLB, MBA (Strathclyde Business School, Strathclyde University,Glasgow, UK). Mr. Lukose Vallatharai held top positions in various important departments of the Government including Dept. of Ecology & Environment, Revenue, Education, and Labour to name a few. His roles have included Chairman/MD, Karnataka State Handicrafts Development Corporation Ltd., Jt. Director General Of Shipping, GOl, Mumbai, Jt. Secretary, Ministry of Shipping,Govt. of India, CMD, Mysore Paper Mills, Visiting Fellow, Centre for Public Policy, IIM Bangalore, Secretary to Govt., Agriculture and Horticulture Dept., GOK, Secretary to Govt. Revenue Department, GOK, and CEO, KIADB
After retirement he has engaged himself in several social causes and issues and is an Executive Committee member of Transparency International India, Karnataka chapter.
